The Cincinnati Mother of Mercy basketball team traveled over Christmas break to San Francisco to play in the Mercy Christmas Basketball Tournament. When the team was in San Francisco, they saw the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz (but did not have the opportunity to go to it), Fisherman’s Wharf, and the many interesting streets and incredibly steep hills of San Fran.
While in San Fran, the team played two basketball games, both against other Mercy High Schools. One school was just called Mercy San Francisco and the other school the Cincinnati team competed against was called Mercy Burlingame. The team lost their first game to Mercy Burlingame 37-36 and then won their second game against Mercy San Francisco High School.
The real adventure started on the way home. The entire Cincinnati Mercy Basketball team flew with United Airlines and all seemed to run into some difficulty on the flights home. Two basketball players had a layover in Denver and it was -15 degrees outside and their flight was delayed for 5 hours. Also, the hard thing about the delay was that there was no heat in the airport. Therefore, the player’s breath could be seen while sitting in the airport waiting for their plane. The explanation for why the plane was delayed and they couldn’t fly the players out of Denver was because the bathroom was frozen. There were also 4 gate changes within this 5 hour time period. Then, finally they boarded the plane, yet their luggage was lost. So then the players sat in the plane for an additional hour and a half.
This definitely was an adventurous Christmas Break for the Cincinnati Mother of Mercy Basketball Team. Yet, this trip was worth every second and penny spent on it.
