McAuley High School’s basketball team defeated the Mount Notre Dame High School basketball team, who is highly ranked in the city and also ranked in the state. Both teams are members of the Girl’s Greater Catholic League of Cincinnati and were also ranked in the top ten teams in the city for the 2014-2015 season. This Girl’s Greater Catholic league, GGCL, rivalry was in favor of the Mount Notre Dame, MND, Cougars. MND was undefeated before this game against McAuley. Going into the game against Mount Notre Dame, McAuley knew they had to come to play. And that is exactly what they did.
Senior guard Emily Vogelpohl led McAuley to its strong victory over the Cougars. Vogelpohl had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and also 4 assists to lead to the 55-36 win over MND. Also, senior guard Lauren Roll led the Mohawks in their win as well. Roll put up 6 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and had 1 assist.
Naomi Davenport, a Michigan commit, is a strong leader on the MND basketball team, and McAuley knew she could give them trouble. Yet, McAuley handled her skills well and sophomore forward Alexah Chrisman had a game high of 7 blocks against MND, which helped to slow down Davenport. McAuley is currently 1st in the GGCL and are undefeated in the GGCL league. Under the leadership of Coach Dan Wallace and Assistant Coach Gina Hyle, the Mohawks are on the road to a GGCL title and can definitely make a run at state this season.
