The road to state is finally coming to it’s final destination, Ohio Stadium. The 2015 LaSalle Lancers Football team has made it to the Division 2 state finals yet again! Can they win back to back? Everyone seems to thinks so, even Massilon Perry. Massilon Perry, LaSalle’s opponent, believes the Lancer’s can win themselves some new shiny rings. One Perry student tweets, “I want Perry to win but LaSalle is just a different breed of football.”
The semi-finals game against Perrysburg was one to keep you on the edge of your seat. In the first half the Lancers knew it was going to be a battle. By halftime they were down: 21-14. This did not stop the lancers or their fans. The players used it as motivation. The next half was crazier than ever, with the Lancers bouncing back: 49-28.
During the game, players broke various records. Jeremy Larkin became the all-time leading rusher in GCL history. Larkin also became Division 2 Co-offensive player of the year.
Lancer nation has been preparing for State for a very long time. Lancers have completely booked two full hotels in Columbus, bought their tickets into Ohio Stadium, reserved seats on the student bus or searched endlessly for rides, found a parking lot for LaSalle to tailgate, or, for the people like my parents who could not go to Columbus, have organized parties to cheer on LaSalle through their TVs.
As you can probably tell, we’re not just fans cheering on a team. LaSalle is community of dedicated students, parents, and players (and you can’t forget about those hard working cheerleaders(;). The state championship is about coming together as a community and showing our pride.
To root on the LaSalle Lancers, come to Ohio Stadium on Friday, December 4th or tune into the WLSN radio/television.
Just like Drake once said, “We’re going back to back.”
