Mercy Christmas!

Stephanie Conners ’18

Christmas is in the air and everyone at Mercy is preparing for the holiday season.   Christmas music playing in the morning and decorations around the school make the halls of Mercy more alive with the spirit of Christmas.

Many classrooms and hallways are decorated for the holiday season with Christmas lights and trees.  Mrs. Behen has already decorated the library turning a quiet place to study into a Winter Wonderland.  She even invited students to come and decorate the library with her.  Mrs. Utah put her own spin on a Christmas Tree with a ring stand tree equip with beaker ornaments filled with chemicals to give them color.  Lights have been hung in the main office hallway to bring christmas cheer to the normally dark building and a beautiful Christmas tree by the cafeteria reminds the students to spread the Christmas cheer.

The students at Mercy have their own ways of celebrating the holidays.  Once they get back from Thanksgiving break Christmas sock season is in full swing.  For some, christmas sock season never ends.  It’s almost a competition to see who can pull off the best and most outrageous Christmas socks.  Another way the students celebrate is by decorating their homeroom doors.   Students stay after school, work through flex time or any free time they have to get their door ready for the competition.  Since it’s still early, not many doors have been finished but people are definitely prepared to win.

The chorus classes and the Vocal Ensemble perform a Christmas Concert for the community, performing popular Christmas songs and proving the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. The day before the students leave for break the whole School participates in a Christmas liturgy to make sure we remember to keep the Christ in Christmas and then a few fun performances follow to send all the students off on a great Christmas break.  This is Mercy’s final celebration as a whole school before we all come back the following year.

The halls are decked and the lights are strung, Christmas is quickly approaching and Mercy is ready for the upcoming holiday season.

Not your typical Christmas tree, it's a Chemis-TREE.

Make sure you grab an ornament off the tree and complete the task on the ornament to help spread the Christmas Cheer!
