Sip on Beyonce’s Lemonade

Queen B released her visual album on Saturday, April 23rd. She shocked the nation with another secret album. Lemonade is packed with a star studded cast. Her album features artists such as The Weeknd, Jack a White, James Blake, and Kendrick Lamar. Directors were Kahlil Joseph, Melina Matsoukas, Todd Tourso, Rikayl Rimmasch, Jonas Akerlund, Mark Romanek Allah, and Beyoncé. There’s many celebrities in Beyoné’s music video Serena Williams, model Winnie Harlow, Leah chase, Ballerina Michaela DePrince, and many others. Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton; Eric Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr; and Michael Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden, were in a music video holding photos of their murdered sons.

Beyoncé named her album ‘Lemonade’ because of her grandmother and mother. She gained strength from her two biggest role models and they taught her to overcome adversity. She explains a story about her grandmother teaching her lessons while making lemonade for her grandchildren.

Almost every song on Beyoné’s album includes lyrics about cheating. A line in one of her songs says “he better call Becky with the good hair.” Beyhives, her fan base, are investigating to uncover who “Becky” is that had an affair with Jay-Z. Some people believe that Rachel Roy is the infamous Becky. She posted a now deleted picture with the caption, “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. ‘Live in the light #nodramaqueens.’” Roy has denied these claims which leaves the case open.

Beyoncé purposely had only main female actors in her music video. Her album was based off of her love for black women being united. Beyoncé says, “A conceptual project based on every woman’s journey or self knowledge and healing.” She adds in home videos of her childhood and her father, Jay Z, and one of blue ivy’s birthday parties.
